The NA49 experiment at the CERN SPS accelerator studies elementary and nuclear collisions in the energy regime from √s=6 to 17 GeV.
The principal analysis items are comparative studies of the evolution of the soft hadronic mechanism from the elementary (p+p) and the nuclear (heavy-ion) reactions, and searches for the Quark Gluon Plasma state.
The total data set collected from 1994 to 2003 includes p+p, n+p, π++p, π-+p, p+C, p+Pb, π++Pb, π-+Pb, C+C, Si+Si, and Pb+Pb reactions at various energies.
The contribution of the Kraków group includes, among others construction of LV systems (E.Górnicki), krypton calibration of the whole NA49 time projection chamber system (A.Rybicki, M.Kowalski), data taking and data analysis (J.Bartke, E.Kornaś, M.Kowalski, A.Rybicki).
