On June 28th, a delegation from IFJ PAN visited the GANIL (Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds) laboratory in Caen, France. The delegation included Prof. Tadeusz Lesiak, Director General of IFJ PAN, Prof. Adam Maj, Chair of the Council of the Consortium of Polish Scientific Institutions COPIN (IFJ PAN is the coordinator of COPIN), and Prof. Bogdan Fornal, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs at IFJ PAN.
During the meeting with the Directorate and heads of various departments of the GANIL laboratory, the research activities and development perspectives of both IFJ PAN and GANIL were presented. The results of scientific research and work on the construction of state-of-the-art detection instruments conducted within the framework of the cooperation between the COPIN Consortium and GANIL, which has existed since 2008 and is known under the acronym COPIGAL, were also presented.
After the presentations and discussions, Prof. Tadeusz Lesiak and Prof. Adam Maj from the Polish side, along with Dr. Fanny Farget, Scientific Director of GANIL from the French side, in the presence of Prof. Marek Lewitowicz (former Scientific Director of GANIL and Chair of the NUPECC Committee) and Prof. Bogdan Fornal, signed a scientific partnership agreement between Consortium COPIN and GANIL-SPIRAL2. This agreement defines the Polish participation in GANIL and the conditions for Polish research groups to use the research infrastructure at GANIL. The visit of the IFJ PAN delegation to GANIL concluded with a tour of the main elements of the laboratory's research infrastructure, including the cyclotron complex (5 cyclotrons), the high-current superconducting linear accelerator SPIRAL2, and the Super Separator Spectrometer - S3.
