I was born on December 7, 1952 in Kraków. My Christian name is Jan Kanty. Important part of my education took place in "Nowodworek" - one of the oldest secondary schools in Poland. I graduated from the Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian University in 1976.
From then to the end of 2019 I worked in the Department of Structural Research and in the Department of Soft Matter Research of The Henryk Niewodniczański Institute of Nuclear Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences. I spent one year at KFA in Jülich, Germany. I spent two years and many times few months at JINR in Dubna, Russia. I also worked for three months at Research Center for Molecular Thermodynamics, Osaka University, Japan (twice). I have also often visited IFE in Kjeller, Norway. I was a member of the Cracow Branch of the Polish Physical Society, of the Polish Society for Neutron Scattering and of the Commission for Sciences Philosophy of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.
My wife's name is Maria, but friends call her Maka. We have eight children: Urszula (married to Robert Trojanowski), Dorota (married to Tomasz Pazdan), Mateusz (married to Edyta Gromczak), Marek (married to Emilia Capac), Agata, Jakub (married to Małgorzata Rachwaniec), Piotr (married to Agata Bednarek) and Tomasz.
